2 Poems by Daria P.

ennui

it means boredom in french
what if i could be this girl,
bed head, a silk robe,
smoking on a balcony, with a glass of wine
soaking in the sun,
written by a man

nothing french about frostbites
no vitamin d in lunch break sunsets

it’s winter, not l’hiver
it’s not ennui, it’s roaches in my head
maybe i should start drinking
or playing video games

i’d give all my money
to someone who could keep me engaged
no amount of french words does it
neither will you

the nuclear winter

last month before the solstice
the hardest time of all
and every year i learn:
the snow will turn to rivers,
it will be warm again

when i was left on read,
i did the same gymnastics
you’re busy,
you’re just thinking of an answer,
you’re just depressed,
you will come back

the winter we were living through
was nuclear
